It’s hard to believe, but it’s been a year and half since I hosted my first blogathon, the Goldblumathon. Call it inspiration, insanity or self-masochism, but I decided I was long overdue for another go-round. Behold…
What: The Nature’s Fury Blogathon
Who: Hosted by yours, truly
Where: Cinematic Catharsis
When: June 18-20
How: Please read the FAQs below, and send me your film preference, along with one backup title, via email (firstname.lastname@example.org), Twitter (@barry_cinematic), by commenting below, or carrier pigeon* (Be sure to include your preferred name, along with your blog’s title).
* If you choose this option, I can’t guarantee the timely receipt of your request, but I applaud your support of this venerable means of communication.
Q: So, what in tarnation is this blogathon about?
A: It’s not wise to fool with Mother Nature, as she soon makes fools of us all. When humanity attempts to conquer the natural world, we inevitably lose. In short, this is a blogathon about our eternal struggle with flora, fauna, and the elements.
Q: Any restrictions?
A: Because the subject is so expansive, and I want to cover as many film eras and genres as possible, no duplicate subjects, please. Your film choice doesn’t have to be exclusively about nature fighting back, but it must contain this theme as a key plot point. Also, the threat needs to be earth-bound (no alien intervention). Other than that, you have free reign to let your imagination run wild.
Q: Do you have some examples of movies I can write about?
A: I’m so glad you asked! Here are some suggestions to get you started (The following are by no means your only choices, but hopefully this will get your creative juices flowing)…
The Birds, Birdemic, Grizzly, Jaws, Night of the Lepus, Orca, Gojira, Phase IV, Jurassic Park, Them!, Tentacles, Moby Dick, Roar!, Piranha, The Revenant
I Fought Nature, and Nature Won:
Earthquake, Long Weekend, 2012, The Wizard of Oz, Meteor,Volcano, The Poseidon Adventure, Titanic, A Night to Remember, Twister, Deluge, The Last Days of Pompeii, The Hurricane (1937), San Francisco, When Worlds Collide, Crack in the World, In Old Chicago,The World Sinks Except Japan, The Last Wave, The Old Man and the Sea, Grass: A Nation’s Battle for Life
Q: Can I do The Swarm?
A: Nope. That one’s mine. Why? Because the bees said so.
Q: Will I have a specific day assigned to me?
A: No. There are no date assignments, so feel free to post anytime during this date range. However, please notify me when you post, so I can update the daily roster.
Q: How can I spread the word about the Nature’s Fury Blogathon?
A: Please use one of the banners below (or make your own).
