Blog Update: Hammer Month Recap and More!

The big news was, I started a new job last month. It’s the same profession, but at a new college, and represents a significant step up. What will that mean for this blog? A longer commute and bigger professional commitment might mean fewer posts, at least for the short term, but I’m sure I’ll soon find my footing. But enough about job stuff. On to the movies…

Thanks to the aforementioned goings-on, Hammer Month was over in the blink of an eye, and I realized I probably could have devoted an entire year to the famed production company’s catalog. Although I envisioned this as a one-off thing, I’m considering doing this again next year. One of my all-time favorites, Quatermass and the Pit, was conspicuously absent, due to my inability to procure a Region 1 DVD. Maybe next year I’ll be able to purchase one of those fancy-schmancy region-free players I’ve been eyeing, and watching it won’t be a problem.

I am truly grateful to be recognized by my movie blogging peers, and it’s always nice to know someone’s still reading this little ‘ol blog. A big thanks to Michaël Parent of Le Mot du Cinephiliaque, along with a very belated tip of the hat to Vern of The Vern’s Video Vortex for nominating me for another Liebster Award. Expect a proper acknowledgement post later this month.

Speaking of Vern, I was honored to be a guest in the inaugural segment of his new podcast, The Film Pasture. We were joined by his co-host Emma Wall of EmmaK Wall (Explains it All) and guest Eric of Isaac’s Picture Conclusions. If you’re dying to hear what I sound like (and if you do, I pity you), check it out, and I hope people won’t judge future shows by my quasi-coherent ramblings.

August features blogathons galore. I’m proud to be participating in the Anti-DamselBlogathon, sponsored by Jo Gabriel (aka: Monstergirl) of The Last Drive In and Fritzi of Movies Silently, as well as the The Barrymore Trilogy Blogathon, hosted by Crystal of In the Good Old Days.

As mentioned in an earlier post, Silent September will take a holiday this year, but in its place will be Sci-Fi September (Who knows? Maybe I’ll feature a silent sci-fi film.). October, of course, is reserved for Horror Month, followed by Noirvember, a celebration of film noir. December will spotlight a director to be named later. It’s down to two possibilities, which I may put to a vote.

Whewww! When do I find time to sleep? Trick question. I don’t…much.

As always, stay tuned.

    1. Thanks, so much! I'm enjoying the new job, so far. It was an honor to be nominated - these things never get old. Glad you're looking forward to Sci-Fi September, too!

  2. Sounds like some great stuff coming up. I go on a Hammer tear every year or two, and I'm still nowhere near out of titles from which to choose. I may go on another tear soon since a healthy batch of Hammer titles are hitting Blu-ray.

    1. Thanks, Brandon. I hope I won't disappoint! I find that sticking to theme months (versus "free-form" months) really keeps me focused. The Hammer catalog is amazingly diverse and extensive. It's fun to find some of the hidden gems that were forgotten over the years. Glad to see there are more titles finally making it to our region.
