It’s hard to believe, but it’s been a year and half since
I hosted my first blogathon, the Goldblumathon. Call it inspiration, insanity or self-masochism, but I decided I was long
overdue for another go-round. Behold…
What: The Nature’s Fury Blogathon
Who: Hosted by yours, truly
Where: Cinematic Catharsis
When: June 18-20
How: Please read the FAQs below, and send me your film
preference, along with one backup title, via email (barry_cinematic@yahoo.com), Twitter
(@barry_cinematic), by commenting below, or carrier pigeon* (Be sure to include
your preferred name, along with your blog’s title).
* If you choose this option, I can’t guarantee the timely
receipt of your request, but I applaud your support of this venerable means of
communication.
Blogathon FAQs:
Q: So, what in tarnation is this blogathon about?
A: It’s not wise to fool with Mother Nature, as she soon
makes fools of us all. When humanity attempts to conquer the natural world, we
inevitably lose. In short, this is a
blogathon about our eternal struggle with flora, fauna, and the elements.
Q: Any restrictions?
A: Because the subject is so expansive, and I want to cover as many film eras and genres as possible, no duplicate subjects, please. Your film choice doesn’t have to be exclusively about nature fighting back, but it must contain this theme as a key plot point. Also, the threat needs to be earth-bound (no alien intervention). Other than that, you have free reign to let your imagination run wild.
Q: Do you have some examples of movies I can write about?
A: I’m so glad you asked! Here are some suggestions to get you started (The following are by no means your only choices, but hopefully this will get your creative juices flowing)…
Animal Attacks:
The Birds, Birdemic,
Grizzly, Jaws, Night of the Lepus, Orca, Gojira, Phase IV, Jurassic Park, Them!,
Tentacles, Moby Dick, Roar!, Piranha, The Revenant
I Fought Nature, and Nature Won:
Earthquake, Long
Weekend, 2012, The Wizard of Oz, Meteor,Volcano, The
Poseidon Adventure, Titanic, A Night to Remember, Twister, Deluge, The Last
Days of Pompeii, The Hurricane (1937), San Francisco, When Worlds Collide, Crack
in the World, In Old Chicago,The World Sinks
Except Japan, The Last Wave, The Old Man and the Sea, Grass: A Nation’s Battle
for Life
Q: Can I do The Swarm?
A: Nope. That one’s mine. Why? Because the bees said so.
Q: Will I have a specific day assigned to me?
A: No. There are no date assignments, so feel free to post anytime during this date range. However, please notify me when you post, so I can update the daily roster.
Q: How can I spread the word about the Nature’s Fury
Blogathon?
A: Please use one of the banners below (or make your own).

ReplyDeleteCool! I really apreciate it!
DeleteNo hurry coming up with a title. Take your time. Glad you're participating!
Hi Barry,
ReplyDeleteI would love to participate. Could I do two entries? There is a really rare film called "The Blazing Forest" ( 1952 ) that I would love to do, and also could I take "San Francisco" ( 1936 )??
My blog: In The Good Old Days Of Classic Hollywood.
Oh by the way, I'm also hosting another blogathon and would love to invite you to participate. The link is below with more details.
https://crystalkalyana.wordpress.com/2016/02/27/announcing-the-bette-davis-blogathon/
Hi, there! You sure can! I'll put you down for both films.
DeleteI would love to participate. Let me think about it, and I'll respond with my choice on your blog.
Thanks for participating!
Awesome! I would like to join and cover "The Fog" by John Carpenter.
ReplyDeleteIt's all yours. One of my favorite Carpenter films! Thanks for joining!
DeleteI was going to select Day of the Animals but a very smart person beat me to it.
ReplyDeleteHow about Sssssss?
Absolutely! Great choice. ...And I still need to see it.
DeleteI'm thinking about taking Chris Marker's Sans Soleil (1983) if it's a valid entry.
ReplyDeleteSounds good! Looking forward to your review. Thanks for taking part in the blogathon!
DeleteI'd like to tackle Tarantula 1955.
ReplyDeletemachinemean.org
Good one! Thanks for participating, Thomas. I'll add you to the roster.
DeleteOkay, here are a couple of favorites. Night of the Lepus....campy 1970s treasure this one is. Here is a back-up, Island of the Fishmen starring Barbara Bach....cheers from my blog, Zisi Emporium for B Movies ( zisiemporium.blogspot.com ) to yours.
ReplyDeleteEither movie would be a great addition to the blogathon. Do you have a preference?
DeleteHello.
ReplyDeleteMike's Take on the Movies would like to contribute The White Buffalo 1977 or as a back-up, Valley of Gwangi 1969.
Let me know
Hi, There! Either one would be a great addition to the blogthon. I'll put you down for The White Buffalo, but let me know if you decide to go with the latter. Thanks for participating!
DeleteOh, this sounds like fun. Would Q, THE WINGED SERPENT work? If not, is PIRANHA still available?
ReplyDeleteMy movie review blog is Psychoplasmics: http://psychoplasmics.blogspot.com
Either movie would be fine. I'll put you down for Q, but there's plenty of time to change your mind if you decide to go with Piranha. Glad to have you aboard, Bill!
DeleteHello! I'd love to tackle TENTACLES for my blog, The Terrible Claw Reviews (link below), but if that gets claimed I'll happily take HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP instead.
ReplyDeletehttp://deinonychusreviews.blogspot.com/
Greetings! Tentacles is all yours. I'll add you to the roster. Thanks for joining!
DeleteSounds like fun. Would love to participate. Pencil me in for BEAKS: THE MOVIE (1987) unless I can think up something else.
ReplyDeleteCool! I'll put you down for Beaks: The Movie, but you're more than welcome to make a last-minute switch if another title isn't spoken for. Thanks for participating!
DeleteAaaaaaaaand I thought of something else, but this one is a lock. And so, I'd like to change my film to SHAKMA (1990), please and thank you.
ReplyDeleteShakma, eh? I'm intrigued! Not a problem. And, you're very welcome.
DeleteThis sounds awesome!!! I will just have a tiny moment to think and let you know which film I've chosen :)
ReplyDelete"I fought nature and nature won" ha ha ha!
:)
DeleteSounds great! Take your time. Glad to have you aboard, Emma!
My blog is Movie Movie Blog Blog. I'd like to blog about DreamWorks' 2000 global-apocalypse movie DEEP IMPACT, starring "Madam Secretary" herself, Tea Leoni!
ReplyDeleteHi, Steve. Great choice! I was wondering if/when someone would pick one of the meteor movies. I'll add you to the roster. Thanks for joining!
DeleteHello, Barry - thank you for the invitation! I would like to nominate the Japanese film KONCHU DAISENSO aka WAR OF THE INSECTS aka GENOCIDE. My second pick would be RODAN.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it!
Lyz

Hi, there... You're very welcome. An inspired choice. I'll put you down for War of the Insects, but you're more than welcome to do Rodan, if you prefer. Can't wait to read your review!
DeleteHi, Barry - thank you for the invitation! I would like to nominate the Japanese film KONCHU DAISENSO aka WAR OF THE INSECTS aka GENOCIDE. My second pick would be RODAN.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it!
Lyz
(And You Call Yourself A Scientist!)
You got it! (See comment above)
DeleteHi! I was wondering, since several TV movies are listed, if I could do the 1994 version of The Stand.
ReplyDeleteIf that's a no-no because it's a miniseries, then I'd be happy to cover The Poseidon Adventure (the 1972 version).
My blog is called Moon in Gemini: https://debravega.wordpress.com/
Greetings, Debra: I think a plague qualifies as a natural disaster. I'll update the roster. Thanks for joining!
DeleteDamn it I wanted Arachnophobia lol, been taken. I'll keep thinking and get back to you!!! :)
ReplyDeleteStill plenty of time, and plenty of other creepy crawly movies! :)

ReplyDeleteHi, Lea! Fun movie! I'll add you to the roster. Thanks so much for joining!
DeleteHistory shows again and again
ReplyDeleteHow nature points up the folly of man.
GODZILLA!
In essence a comparison of the original Japanese movie with the American release of the same movie with Raymond Burr squeezed in as an afterthought.
Gojira vs. Godzilla... Love it! I'll update the roster. Thanks for participating!.
DeleteHi there! I would love to participate in your blogathon. I'm going to do a write-up on THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW
ReplyDeleteGreetings! Sounds good! I'll add you to the roster. Welcome aboard!
DeleteHowdy! May I take THE GRAPES OF WRATH? Beth at mildredsfatburgers.com
ReplyDeleteHi, Beth! Absolutely! Wherever there's a blogathon, I'll be there...
DeleteThanks for joining.
Hi, I'll take The Wizard of Oz if that's OK.
ReplyDeleteAmanda from Old Hollywood Films.
Hi, Amanda... You got it! Thanks for joining the party!
DeleteGreat idea! I'd like to reserve the Robert Altman film, Quintet (I'd briefly mention other films set in a future ice-age).
ReplyDeleteMy blog is A Film Over Reality, at:
afilmoverreality.blogspot.com
Unique choice! This is an Altman film I'm not too familiar with, so I'm interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks for participating!
DeleteHey Barry, I noticed that the date range is shown as June 18-21, but your banners show 18-20. Just wanna make sure I have the right dates on my banner.
ReplyDeleteAlso, how soon before the blogathon do you want us to start advertising about it?
Can't wait to read Thomas Lalli Foster's post about Quintet. One my absolute favorite PA flicks!
Ooh... Good catch! The banners are correct. It should be June 18-20. I just fixed it.
DeleteFeel free to spread the word ASAP! I really appreciate your initiative on creating your own banner. The one you showed me looks awesome.
I agree about Quintet. Admittedly, I don't know much about it, so I can't wait to read his review. I'm also looking forward to your Slipstream review. I haven't seen that film in ages (since I worked at a video store).
Can I do SAN FRANCISCO?
ReplyDeletehttps://popculturereverie.wordpress.com/
Hello, Robin. Unfortunately, San Francisco (1936) has already been spoken for, but there are plenty of other classic disaster flicks out there. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to do. Thanks!
DeleteAre you sure? I don't see it on the roster or in any of the comments?
DeleteAnother blogger is doing a comparison between San Francisco and The Blazing Forest (It's about halfway down the roster). However, since they're doing a comparison, and you're planning to review just the one film, you're welcome to cover it. I'll go ahead and add you to the roster. Thanks for checking. I really appreciate your enthusiasm! :)
DeleteHi There! My name is Amanda and I write about made for TV movies on my blog, aptly titled Made for TV Mayhem. I'd like to participate.
ReplyDeleteMy 1st choice is Ants! (aka It Happened at Lakewood Manor), and my second choice is Where Have All the People Gone? Do either of those work for you?
I'd love to do both, but am not sure I'll have the time. What a fun topic!
Thanks!
Hi, Amanda. Either title sounds great! I'll add you to the roster under Ants!, but you're more than welcome to switch to your 2nd choice.
DeleteWelcome aboard! :)
Hey there Barry, I would love to do Steamboat Bill Jr.!
ReplyDeleteHi Anna. An inspired choice for the blogathon! It's all yours. Thanks for joining!
DeleteThanks to my lizard (or is that rat?) brain, I knew there was a reason I was doing Food of the Gods (1976) for my Drive-In Dust Off this weekend...
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Bert I. Gordon getting some love. Looking forward to your review!
DeleteHi Barry,
ReplyDeleteSadly I can't get hold of "The Blazing Forest" in time for the blogathon, but when I came on your blog to let you know, I noticed that somebody else is doing "San Francisco"? San Francisco is really the only film that I can think of that I'm inspired to write about. But if Robin wants to still do it that's fine, I'll have to think of something else. Let me know?
Hi, Crystal... No worries! I know I said no duplicates, but rules are meant to be broken. I'm sure you'll have a unique take on the film. Of course, you're more than welcome to choose another title if one comes to mind, but San Francisco will be fine.
DeleteHi Barry. I noticed that "Key Largo" isn't being spoken for. So I'll be happy to write about that. Put me down for "Key Largo" ( 1948 )
ReplyDeleteA terrific choice! It's great to have Bogie and company in the blogathon. Thanks again!
DeleteIt's a day early but I went ahead and posted my review: http://psychoplasmics.blogspot.com/2016/06/q-winged-serpent.html
