The focus was on creating a (mostly) family-friendly franchise, rather than a stand-alone satire. It's interesting to speculate what could have been if the material had been handled by more capable filmmakers.Barry P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11251536316431708240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1463671176628323648.post-63470029406873619872014-08-02T07:35:34.582-07:002014-08-02T07:35:34.582-07:00Yeah, Howard the Duck -- I have seen this a while ...Yeah, Howard the Duck -- I have seen this a while ago, don't recall too much about it though. I have to confess the source which inspired the film, i.e. the comic, went a little over my head. The -humour-, I'm assuming that an anthropomorphic duck in a world populated with villains modelled on such characters as chartered accountants, is intended as humorous, was a touch flat. It got better I'm told as the writer exercised his talents towards the surreal, rather than his meagre facility for mirth. Unfortunately, Disney pulled the plug and by that time, the creator had been edged out of the running by Marvel anyway, leaving poor Howard in limbo. Recently however, I have revisited Howard and while I'm still scratching my head, as a character he does have potential.
DeadSpiderEyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07687178085803686186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1463671176628323648.post-60329128544279415552012-11-30T08:40:03.813-08:002012-11-30T08:40:03.813-08:00I wonder if Lucas is more ashamed of this one, or ...I wonder if Lucas is more ashamed of this one, or the Star Wars Holiday Special?

I can definitely see how Howard the Duck could be considered "so bad it's good," but for me it was just annoying. I wonder what my reaction would have been as a kid? Oh well... I still agree with everything you said in this review. It is horrible. Had no idea that this was going to be an animated movie at first. That would have been cool to see, maybe.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16174093530239310598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1463671176628323648.post-71675219010276085752012-11-29T03:02:28.991-08:002012-11-29T03:02:28.991-08:00One nutty ride, indeed!

Sounds like it might be worth checking out. :)

Barry P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11251536316431708240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1463671176628323648.post-33327788582030733382012-11-28T08:20:44.102-08:002012-11-28T08:20:44.102-08:00I still remember when it came out and no one knew ...I still remember when it came out and no one knew what the Hell the movie would be... and then they went and saw it... and no one knew what the Hell they just watched.

That this movie even exists, is still a bizarre fact of life. Hyuck should have stuck to writing stuff like "Temple of Doom", or even, as much as I hate having enjoyed it, "Messiah of Evil".

One nutty ride.Kev D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13557162668726460610noreply@blogger.com
