The first time I saw it I didn't know who Rupert Everett was and the biggest impression I got was from Anna Falchi - for obvious reasons. Many years later I realized that the Rupert Everett from My Best Friend's Wedding, An Ideal Hisband, The Importance of Being Earnest, etc. was the main guy in Cemetery Man. That's when I watched it again, and I got an amused charge out of seeing Everett being about as badass as a man can be. You couldn't get much further from his more recent roles in movies than Cemetery Man.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1463671176628323648.post-33355398063164985552011-10-27T18:06:24.243-07:002011-10-27T18:06:24.243-07:00Thanks all, for reading!

A mix of Argento and Gilliam influences in Italian Horror I have to discover this Michele Soavi guy!MPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08366182655374603950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1463671176628323648.post-73054093273290806412011-10-27T10:23:18.643-07:002011-10-27T10:23:18.643-07:00He also worked under Terry Gilliam as a second uni...He also worked under Terry Gilliam as a second unit director, and it’s easy to spot Gilliam’s influence, particularly with regard to Dellamorte’s exchanges with a Grim Reaper figure. Soavi is interested in the roles each character plays, not afraid to jumble them around like figures in a chaotic board game where the rules have been lost.

This is well stated. Gilliam's influence on Soavi is just as important as Argento's, and Soavi was great melding those two distinct styles into his own. Soavi's films had an amazing way of tipping their hat to their influences but also feeling like their distinctly his picture.

I could watch the ending to CEMETERY MAN over and over. It's a fun movie...not my favorite Soavi film -- the comedy is too broad at times -- but it's beautifully shot and wonderfully original. I do think it gets a tad overrated because it truly is the last genuine Italian horror film to ever be produced in Italy.

If you haven't seen Soavi's other films, I highly recommend STAGEFRIGHT and THE CHURCH. Great, great stuff.

Thanks for this contribution, Barry. I appreciate it. I really enjoyed reading this.Kevin J.
